Devastating Jobs Numbers an Indication of Washington's Handling of the Economy

Statement

Date: Aug. 16, 2012

This morning the Bureau of Labor Statistics delivered yet again another indicator of Jim Himes ineffective results at restoring our vital economic growth. According to the BLS, 80,000 new jobs were created in June, following 77,000 in May.

"The Himes' record has blanketed businesses both small and large with economic uncertainty causing people to rethink making critical investments in their people. Additionally the continuous delay of necessary government reform has created a massive "fiscal cliff," arriving Jan 1st, 2013 by postponing critical decisions on the budget, taxation and entitlement reform," said Steve Obsitnik. "This self-inflicted financial crisis is forecast to decrease economic output by as much as 3%, and Congressman Himes has done nothing to stop it. In fact, Congressman Himes has worked to block construction of the Keystone pipeline, which would add thousands of private sector jobs, created by private sector dollars, while reducing our dependency on Middle East oil.

"We need thoughtful, non-partisan leadership in Washington to navigate through these challenging times. 4th District families are hurting, and our economy has hit stall speed and cannot wait five months for a policy change. Not a single individual, worker or business in this country knows what their tax rate or healthcare costs will be in 2013, so they are waiting for leadership and preserving the cash they have. Meanwhile, 12.7 million unemployed cannot find work, savers earn next to nothing on their savings, and small businesses choke on rising healthcare costs."
